Writing for social is the last thing on your mind when you’re a small business owner, isn’t it? Especially when you’re flying solo.

It’s a catch 22 though: to keep your business running you need to stay in front of your customers — and prospects. Well, here are 3 ways to create social posts that will make it worth the time (including real examples from small business owners):

1. Make a short video

People love watching videos. For example, this 50-second video by Nick from Simple Property Investment got far more views and comments than any other post on his LinkedIn feed. The video spread beyond his own network.

He simply listed 4 great outcomes for property investors as a result of the recent Victorian election.

2. Give people incentives to share

Incentives give people a little push to do something they may not usually do. For example, Wendy from Wendy and Holly Shoes wanted to build her mailing list and build more awareness of the brand.

She ran a competition where customers had to sign up to the mailing list and upload a photo of their little ones’ tootsies — they could win 2 pairs of kids shoes. Customers took the effort to take beautiful photos and shared it on Wendy’s Facebook page.

3. Ask other people to share

Tatyana from Kawaii Drawings, regularly asks course participants to share photos of their drawing on her private Facebook page. Social sharing increases participation — and saves Tatyana from creating every post.

Course participant, Poorna happily shared the post below with the group.

You’ve worked hard to build your business. More people need to know what you do. Why you do it. And how well you do it.

To recap, here are 3 ways to create social posts that grab people’s attention when you’re a busy small business owner:
1. Ask others to share
2. Make a short video
3. Offer incentives

What other business social posts have you created that magnetized your followers? Please share, I’d love to know.
