Andrew, you’re being way too hard on yourself!! It’s not at all self-centred. I think many people who have lost dads would find Father’s Day hard to deal with.

Perhaps take some time out every Father’s Day to be on your own so you can remember your dad- and maybe do something special in that time like chat to him, say a poem, or have a beer. You deserve that. Then when that time is over, you may be able to be more present and enjoy the day with your kids.

Six years is not a long time, and even with all that ‘time heals all wounds’ stuff, you had your dad for more than 6 years. You will always miss him. Be kinder to yourself…
