Easy Holiday Reading (And Thank You)
It’s Christmas Eve here in Australia and as I write this, sirens are screaming in the distance, the sun is shining brightly, and my daughter has fallen asleep on my husband while watching Christmas videos together on YouTube. I’m not far behind…but I wanted to share a little something with you first.
I hope you’re enjoying the festive season, despite the busy-ness of it all. Whether you’re religious or not, the end of the year is a wonderful time to wind down (eventually), rest, and spend precious time with family and friends.
Perhaps you might get time for some light reading in between the avalanche of scrumptious fine food and drink. If so, I’ve dug up a few articles from my bookmarks, gifted to us from an assortment of insightful authors. These speak to me at this time — and may help each of us reflect and ready ourselves for an awesome 2020 of writing.
7 Secrets to Putting More Vulnerability Into Your Writing: No, authenticity is not a hack (Shannon Ashley)
You Don’t Need a Personal Brand, You Need to Be Useful: There are better things to focus on than grooming your online image (Tim Denning)
How I learned to stop worrying and love the stress: Changing your perception of stress can literally save your life (Aytekin Tank)
It’s been a pleasure to serve you and connect with you through Medium. I love writing what’s helpful for you and it’s an honor to be part of your life.
This year I’ve dedicated so much of my time to writing. And in return I’ve gained so much more than I imagined:
- A feature in my local newspaper.
- Invitations by publications to submit writing.
- Invitation to have my own column.
- Wonderful connections off Medium, on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram and email — places we‘ve gotten to know each other better.
So it’s with confidence that I say to you: Be consistent. Keep writing through the darkness. Get so good that they no longer ignore you. Celebrate your wins. Be grateful always. And know you are worthy — you are enough and always have been.
Thank you for gifting me your time. Thank you for your honest feedback during the year. Thank you for your warmth, kindness, and encouragement.
The world shines because you are in it. My world is richer because you are in it.
My friend, have a wonderful Christmas and an awesome 2020.
Cheers to you!
