Right on! :) Yes many people don’t realize yoga was for men in India. I loved your research about how it became such a female dominated activity in the west.

I agree with you — not enough men do yoga in the west. I actually love being in a class that’s at least 1/3 or 1/2 full of men. I hope that becomes the norm rather than remain the exception.

What came to mind when I read this was perhaps you can keep exploring studios — a few tend to attract men more than others. Also it’s not so much the studio, but the teacher that makes the difference in a yoga class — find one you feel comfortable with.

If you can’t, check on YouTube — there are awesome videos from male yogis, as well as female yogis. It shouldn’t matter the sex, really it’s about how you feel when they run their session.

My favorite YouTube yogis are Yoga with Adrienne and Eckart Yoga. I did find a guy that ran great sessions, but I’ve lost his name over the years.

Anyway, please keep practicing. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do (or don’t do) — yoga is for everyone!

Cheers J.J., really enjoyed your post. It was easy to read, thought-provoking, and insightful. Great to hear of your experiences and thoughts. Keep writing! :)
